Oura ring is one of the best alternatives to bulky smartwatches. It rivals all the traits of other expensive fitness trackers and smartwatches.
But just like smartwatches, does the Oura ring also waterproof? Can you use Oura ring while taking a bath or shower?
Oura ring is water-resistant; also, it’s made of titanium material, so you don’t have to worry about rust or water damage.
In this article, I will answer how much extent to Oura ring is water resistant and some precautions while using it under water.
Does Oura Ring Is Water Resistant?
Oura Ring is water resistant up to 100 meters, which means you can wear it while swimming or shower. But the Oura ring is not fully waterproof.
Under high water pressure, the sensor of the Oura ring may cause dysfunctioning and battery issues.
The Company claims that the Oura ring is not applicable for scuba diving. Similarly, you can’t keep it submerged underwater for over 12 hours. It can damage the optical sensor in the Ring.
But for normal swimming, showering, and under water activities, you can wear Oura ring. You also don’t need to worry about rust or water splashes because it’s made of Titanium which is very durable.

Precautions While Using The Oura Ring Under Water
Even the Oura Ring is water resistant, but still you have to keep a few things in mind.
The Oura ring comes in three types of senors that don’t work efficiently underwater. These three sensors include; PPG Sensor, a Negative temperature coefficient (NTC), and a 3D accelerometer.
The temperature sensor and PPG sensor don’t work too well underwater. So you can’t take efficient readings of your heart rate underwater. Similarly, temperature sensors also show faulty values in pools and bathtubs.
So whenever you shower or swim, clean your Our Ring with a microfiber cloth.
Secondly, you must avoid Oura ring from continuous exposure to high-temperature water. It can damage the battery life permanently.
According to the brand’s official report, continuous exposure to a temperature above 35º can damage the battery life of the Oura Ring.
Similarly, if the Ring’s internal temperature rises to 52º, It can damage the Ring badly.
Is It Ok To Use Oura Ring While Taking Shower?
When it comes to the water-resistant behavior of an Oura Ring, it’s water-resistant up to 100 meters. So there is no the issue in wearing an Oura Ring while taking a shower or bath.
But the problem arises when the residue from daily cleaning products, soups, or shampoo can penetrate the sensor. This can affect the accuracy of the sensors.
That’s why cleaning the Oura ring with a microfiber cloth after a bath or shower is recommended.
Sometimes too many residues penetrate the Ring, damaging the internal system and reducing the water-resistant capabilities.
So it’s best to take off the Oura Ring while using such a cleaning product. Otherwise, wearing the Oura ring while showering is okay if you’re not using any cleaning product.

What To Do If Water Penetrates In The Oura Ring?
Oura ring is a durable smart ring that can withstand water pressure up to 100 meters or 10 ATMs. But sometimes exposing it to water for a long time may create some problems for you.
If you do scuba diving with an Oura ring, the water penetrates the Ring and damages the internal system.
Similarly, the continuous exposure of Oura Ring under high-temperature water accumulates the steam internally. This steam can affect the accuracy of sensors.
So, in any case, if water penetrates your Oura ring, you have to first keep it under direct sunlight for a few hours. Then clean the ring with a clean microfiber cloth.
You can also put your Oura ring into silica gel for a few hours to remove moisture or steam from the Ring.
Final Words:
You can wear the Oura ring without hesitation for daily water activities like showering, swimming, or snorkeling. The Oura ring is water-resistant up to 100 meters, which means it can withstand water pressure up to 10 ATM.
But the Oura ring is not fully waterproof and can be damaged under high water pressure. That’s why the Ring is not recommended for Scuba diving and long exposure to water.
You should also avoid your Oura ring from high-temperature water, the residue of soups, and other cleaning products.
