The statement above is not false, but it’s also not useful. The simple solution is to change it by one word to “..uses more than one satellite NETWORK to track..”. The why is below:

Satellite positioning as a technology, including the basic GPS system without use of Multi-GNSS, ALWAYS relies on more than one satellite. To calculate a position, in 3D space, you need at least three satellites. The task is a literal exercise in geometry. That’s why you hear the unfortunate looking nerds on TV talking about triangulating the caller’s position… As you increase that number past three, you get significantly increased accuracy of your positioning.

Multi-gnss offers increased accuracy by taking advantage of the different Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) orbiting Earth. There are many GNSS up there. GPS refers to the USA’s satellites, Galileo is Europe’s, GLONASS is Russia’s, BDS is China’s, IRNSS is India’s, etc. Multi GNSS simply refers to your devices ability to use more advanced antennae and processing to take advantage of satellites from more than one network. That sounds simple except for the fact that each of these GNSS operates at a different frequency and using different communication methods. That allows them to function across the planet without accidentally affecting each other’s signals, the same way that Wi-Fi, FM radio, and 4G can simultaneously serve devices in the same room without interfering with one another. It was an extra feat to standardize the calculations necessary to consistently use satellites from multiple GNSS networks and increase the overall accuracy of satellite positioning across the globe.
