In contrast to Fitbit, Samsung Health offers some important features that will help you improve your basic health. And guess what? Due to this reason, people ask whether Fitbit works with Samsung Health.

Quick Answer: Samsung Health and Fitbit are currently not officially integrated. Samsung Health could only be synced to Fitbit through third-party apps like Health Sync, Google Fit, Strave, Apple, or Google Play.

In this post, I’ve discussed all the facts and queries related to Fitbit and Samsung health integration. Furthermore, I have discussed an alternative way to connect Samsung Health with Fitbit.

So let’s get started.

Why Doesn’t Fitbit Work With Samsung Health? 3 Major Reasons

Due to ecosystem differences and data-sharing protocols, Fitbit is not directly compatible with Samsung Health.

Below are some other reasons why Fitbit doesn’t work with Samsung Health:

1. Ecosystem Differences

Since different companies created both platforms to offer their products and services, they cannot be integrated.

Each ecosystem is designed to work seamlessly within itself, and its devices might use different operating systems and data formats.

Related Post: DOES FITBIT WORK WITH PELOTON?

2. Data Sharing Protocols

Secondly, the data-sharing protocols of both platforms are different. It means that each platform’s set of rules, structures, and methods of transmitting data differs.

So, it’s easy to understand that Fitbit and Samsung use different data-sharing protocols, so they can’t be integrated.

3. Competing Platforms

Lastly, Fitbit and Samsung are competitors in the wearable tech and health-tracking market.

This reason might have led to the lack of direct compatibility.

Best Alternatives To Connect Fitbit With Samsung Health

Although Fitbit can’t be directly connected to Samsung Health, it can be synced using third-party applications.

There are many third-party applications to sync Fitbit with Samsung Health, but I recommend using the following ones:

  • Health Sync For Android and Harmony OS
  • Strava for Android and OS

A step-by-step guide is mentioned for each method. So let’s start.

Method 1: Using Health Sync (For Android And Harmony OS)

Health Sync is a perfect app that syncs all your Fitbit data profiles. It has a simple design making it easier for you to sync your data.

Here’s how to Sync your Fitbit Data with Samsung Health using the Health Sync app:

  • Download and install Health Sync from the Google Play Store or Samsung Galaxy Store on your Android or Harmony OS device.
  • Launch the Health Sync app and click “OK” on the First Usage Action Page and Sync Configuration popups.
  • Select “Samsung Health” as your primary sync source on the following screen.
  • Choose “Fitbit” as your sync configuration.
  • Accept the declaration of consent by tapping “OK” to initiate the synchronization process.

After completing these steps, you must complete the Fitbit authorization to start the connection. To authorize, tap the “Initialize Fitbit Connection” button.

Now, you’ll be redirected to the Fitbit official site, where you must log in to your account. You have to allow Samsung Health to access your health and fitness data from the dashboard.

Note:
Fitbit might require some permission to access during the initialization process. These include activity and exercise information, profile details, weight, heart rate data, etc.

Once you allow Fitbit to get this information, Fitbit will take a few seconds to process the authorization and complete the initialization.

Now your Fitbit is synced with Samsung Health. Enjoy.

Method 2: Using Strava (For Android And iOS)

With Strava, you can stay connected with one another, find motivation, explore new places, and memorialize and track your athletic journeys.

Here’s how you can use it to sync your Fitbit with Samsung Health:

Step 1: Link Strava To Fitbit

For iOS users, linking Strava to Fitbit includes the following steps:

  • Download and install the Strava app on your iPhone.
  • Launch it and go to Settings.
  • Tap Applications, Services, and Devices.
  • Tap Connect a new Device to Strava.
  • Choose Fitbit.

For Android users, linking Strava to Fitbit includes the following steps:

  • Go to Strava Settings.
  • Tap on Link Other Services.
  • Click Connect a device to Strava.

Step 2: Start Syncing To Samsung Health

Syncing Strava to Samsung Health includes the following steps:

  • Launch Samsung Health on your device.
  • Tap on the three dots at the top right corner to access the menu and select “Settings.”
  • Scroll down the settings page until you find “Connected Services.”
  • Select “Strava” from the list of available options, and then authorize the connection by following the provided instructions.

This will enable the integration between Samsung Health and Strava, allowing data to be shared between the two apps.

Now Fitbit will start syncing data to Samsung Health.

Note: Only new activities will sync automatically after creating the connection

Both Samsung Health and Fitbit are comprehensive health and fitness tracking apps, each offering a range of features to help users monitor their activities and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

But the Samsung Health offers more health tracking features, including stress, blood glucose levels, blood oxygen and pressure monitoring, and women’s health data.

Conversely, Fitbit only focuses on step count, sleep cycles, and calorie intake.

Maybe it’s why most people want to sync Fitbit with Samsung Health.

To get a better understanding, I’ve mentioned the comparison table of both apps:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If your Fitbit is not counting the steps, it’s because you are not wearing it properly or the GPS tracker of your Fitbit is on. Moreover, the potential cause would also include inaccurate syncing, personal data, or outdated firmware of your Fitbit.

So, if you’re worried about why your bit is not counting the steps, you don’t need to roam around. Just buckle up your sleeves and find out the potential causes and solutions.

Reasons Why Your Fitbit Is Not Counting Your Steps and Its Solution?

Fitbits count steps based on the help accelerometer sensor; this sensor is responsible for tracking the movement of the wrist

If your Fitbit suddenly stops counting steps, it means there is a problem with the accelerometer or some software bugs showing the inaccurate steps count.

But don’t fret. Here are some solutions that will surely fix the Fitbit steps counting issue.

CaseSolution
You’re not wearing it properlyEnsure the bands are appropriately tightened and not too loose or tight.
The GPS of Fitbit is onAccess watch settings and turn off the GPS option.
Inaccurate syncing of FitbitCheck the Fitbit syncing in the app and ensure it is turned on.
Outdated firmware of your FitbitUpdate the Fitbit firmware through the app.
Incorrect Fitbit profile and personal dataUpdate your profile with accurate and updated information.
Water got into the FitbitKeep the Fitbit under sunlight to dry until the moisture is absorbed.
Inability to move your handsEnsure your hand moves naturally and avoid carrying heavy objects for accurate tracking.

1- You’re Not Wearing It Properly

Fitbit not counting steps properly

The way you wear your Fitbit highly affects the tracking of your steps. That’s why if your Fitbit is not counting the steps, the first-ever reason could be that you are not wearing it properly. Either it is too tight or too loose to affect tracking.

However, the general rule is that the Fitbit band should be a comfortable fit not to shake while walking, dancing, or moving your hands. With that, uncomfortable bands or inappropriate sizing of them could also lead to this issue.

Solution

The ultimate answer lies in the fitting of your bands. That’s why you must be reassured that you have tightened the bands appropriately. It should be tight enough to fit but not hurt your wrist.

Moreover, it should not be loose enough to cause shaking on the wrist. However, don’t hesitate to replace the bands if needed.

2- The Fitbit’s GPS Is Turn On

Fitbit not tracking my steps

Another potential reason due which your Fitbit doesn’t counts the steps is that the built-in GPS tracker of your Fitbit is on.

However, the ultimate purpose of a GPS sensor in Fitbit is to track your distance, pace, route, hikes, and other stats.

Meanwhile, it can also reduce the battery life of your Fitbit. So, as your purpose is to keep a record of steps you took, not all these, you must ensure the GPS is turned off.

Solution:

All you need is access to your watch settings and turn off the GPS option if it’s on. This will ultimately help you to track your steps accurately.

3- Inaccurate Syncing of Fitbit

Syncing your Fitbit account means an effective way to exchange data and information with your Fitbit app. However, the ultimate purpose of syncing is to get access to real-time data.

For example, you can set a goal or see how you slept in the Fitbit app only if it’s synced properly.

That’s why inaccurate syncing of Fitbit will cause you not to count the steps because the app cannot access real-time information.

Solution:

  • Check The Heart Rate Sensor
  • Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit
  • Restart The Fitbit
  • Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App
  • Update The Fitbit OS
  • Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose
  • Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

4- Outdated Firmware of Your Fitbit

Fitbit watches always try to keep themselves updated. For this, they use Wear OS, an operating system to help the watch up to date.

Meanwhile, if your Fitbit was counting the steps accurately and suddenly stopped counting or giving inaccurate results, then the ultimate reason is that you are using outdated firmware.

That’s why it is obvious if your Fitbit is not counting the steps.

Solution:

All you need is to update your Fitbit firmware.

  • Open the Fitbit app on your phone.
  • Tap the Tap tab
  • Next, tap on your profile picture
  • Locate the update button and tap on it.
  • Keep your Fitbit closer to your phone, and follow the on-screen instructions to update it.

5- Your Fitbit Profile & Personal Data

Your Fitbit personal account details highly affect the steps counting process.

For example, suppose you had put the wrong information about height, gender, or stride length. This will ultimately result in faulty, inaccurate, or completely nulled counting of steps.

It’s worth mentioning that Fitbit counts your steps based on your provided information. It’s because the algorithm works to calculate measures by dividing the traveled distance by stride length.

That’s why, in order to get rid of why your Fitbit is not counting the steps, you must be assured of accurate and updated information.

Solution

Get straight into your profile and look for the information you provided. In case you skipped something, update it.

Meanwhile, if you have provided any inaccurate personal data, update it with the right one.

6- Water Got Into The Fitbit

Fitbit step counter not working

Generally, the sensors highly impact your Fitbit performance, especially the step-counting process.

So suppose you’ve used your Fitbit in the water, which has absorbed some water. This will ultimately result in stopping the counting of steps.

Furthermore, we highly encourage you not to wear Fitbit during a shower. It’s because the chemical integration in terms of (shampoo, conditioner, or other materials) would potentially damage the sensors.

Solution:

So, if this is the case that water got into the Fitbit and you’re worried about how to fix it. Don’t worry; keep your Fitbit under the sunlight and let it dry. Keep it there until the moisture gets absorbed.

7- You’re Unable To Move Your Hands

Fitbit not tracking my steps

It’s good to know that Fitbit counts steps whenever the 3-axis sensor detects acceleration. The ultimate purpose of this sensor is to see the frequency, intensity, and duration of your movement to track the number of steps.

So, it doesn’t mean you cannot move your hands or necessarily need to swing your hands for accurate step counting. Meanwhile, it’s also true that it highly affects your counted steps.

For example, if you don’t swing your hands, it will count fewer steps than usual, leading to inaccurate counting of steps.

Solution:

To resolve this, you must ensure your hand moves naturally. You don’t need to swing it forcefully or speedily for step-counting purposes.

With that, avoid carrying heavy stuff if you need an accurate number. It’s because the weight won’t let you move your hands.

However, keeping your hands in your pockets is an ideal position to monitor proper step count and eliminate why my Fitbit is not counting my steps.

FAQ:

Why is your Fitbit not showing any steps?

The potential cause is an issue with your Fitbit app and the website. It might be possible that they are not syncing properly, so your Fitbit is not showing any steps. And to fix it, you must check both syncing to ensure it counts the steps correctly.

Why is my Fitbit just frozen?

Freeze Fitbit is a common issue, and there could be several reasons. However, the good thing is that it can easily be resolved by restarting the watch. Another useful feature is “force stop” to get rid of it.

Why is my Fitbit undercounting my steps?

Generally, it’s because of the wrong placement of stride length in your Fitbit account. In addition, the order of Fitbit on the wrist would also affect and cause und or count the steps.

Conclusion:

If you’re struggling with Fitbit not counting steps, you must find the reason. However, we have also stated some of the most common causes with their solution so you can easily figure it out.

Most of the time, people don’t wear Fitbit properly, or they wear Fitbit on their dominant hand, causing inaccurate step tracking. Similarly, software-related issues, GPS, and inaccurate personal data can conflict with Fitbit step counting algorithms.

Fitbit is one of the dominant fitness trackers on the market that focuses on accurately tracking your health and fitness. But just like any other fitness tracker, Fitbit doesn’t last forever.

The general life span of a Fitbit is one to two years. However, knowing how long a Fitbit lasts depends on other factors, such as how often it’s been used and how much care it receives. With that, considering the type or model of the watch is also crucial to determine its average lifespan.

Well, you don’t have to worry anymore. We are here to help you with our comprehensive guide ranges from factors affecting the average lifespan of a Fitbit and how you can increase the lifespan of your Fitbit.

So, let’s dig into it.

What is the Average Lifespan of a Fitbit?

The most crucial part before you invest in a Fitbit is to know the average lifespan.

So, it’s true that just like many other fitness trackers, Fitbit is also made of premium materials to enhance its lifespan. However, this doesn’t ensure that a Fitbit lasts a lifetime.

That’s why knowing “what is the average lifespan of a Fitbit” is always appreciated to make a well-informed choice.

Generally, and on average, most Fitbit models stay under normal use for 1-2 years. And sometimes, even more.

However, the battery’s health, cleaning frequency, and the features you use can help you to extend its lifespan.

With that, you must know that the frequency of resets would also determine the lifespan.

So, there are couple of factors that impact the lifespan of Fitbit. However, there are certain precautions that you can take to enhance its battery life and the lifespan of a Fitbit.

Factors that Determine How Long Does a Fitbit Last?

Duration of Fitbit's battery

1- Quality of Hardware

Although, with every new model, Fitbit is trying to improve its hardware system. It also indicates the brand’s willingness to provide a better experience to its customers. Still the hardware quality remains at the top, which affects Fitbit’s overall performance.

So, how would you know that your Fitbit internal hardware is having issues?

Simply, if you face any internal hardware issues in your Fitbit model, you will notice

  • Check The Heart Rate Sensor
  • Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit
  • Restart The Fitbit
  • Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App
  • Update The Fitbit OS
  • Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose
  • Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

However, the general cause of noticing these hardware quality issues involves

  • Check The Heart Rate Sensor
  • Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit
  • Restart The Fitbit
  • Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App
  • Update The Fitbit OS
  • Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose
  • Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

It doesn’t matter how often these issues will occur, but you need to fix them as soon as you notice.

2- Battery Health

Lifespan of a Fitbit

Just like any other fitness tracker Fitbit also offers rechargeable batteries.

So, for most Fitbit models, the battery can last up to 4 to 5 days on a single charge.

However, how quickly the Fitbit will drain this battery depends on how many apps or features you use. That’s why you must turn off all those unnecessary features that are no longer needed to keep your Fitbit fitness tracker in optimal condition.

Moreover, you don’t need to overcharge your Fitbit battery as it can reduce the lifespan of your Fitbit. Make sure to remove or plug out the battery from the charger to increase its life expectancy.

If you are some users who often overcharge their Fitbit battery, then you can expect this factor to highly influence lifespan of Fitbit.

3- Cleaning Frequency

Undoubtedly, giving good care and cleaning more often will help any gadget perform longer. The same goes for the Fitbit tracker.

Fitbits can easily get dirty, especially if you wear them for the whole day or longer hours. That’s why giving proper care and maintenance determines its average life.

Remember, while cleaning your Fitbit, you wouldn’t need any chemicals. For example, body soap, hand sanitizer, dishwasher, shampoo, or any other similar product as they contain chemicals.

The usage of any cleaning chemicals will not only harm the internal components of your Fitbit but can also cause you to have an allergic reaction.

Tip: all you need to use is soap-free cleaner or fresh water to clean your Fitbit regularly.

4- The Features you Use

Average lifespan of a Fitbit device

Fitbit indeed has a variety of features helping you to track your fitness goals more conveniently. But it doesn’t mean you must use all the features at once. If you are doing so, you must know it will drain more battery.

For example, using the backlight feature or vibrating alarms and keeping the GPS tracker on all the time will increase battery usage. This will ultimately not only harm the battery but will also shorten the Fitbit lifespan.

So, turn off all those features that are no longer needed.

5- Water Resistance

Most Fitbits are water resistant to 50 meters; it doesn’t mean that you can take Fitbit to a depth of 50 meters in the water; it refers to the air pressure.

Few of the Fitbits are even not water resistant.

For example, the Fitbit Charge™ and the Fitbit Charge HR™ can bother 1 ATM, which means an accidental submersion of water just like a splash that should be removed quickly.

Also, the Fitbits are not completely waterproof and prone to water damage. Especially if keeping Fitbit in water for a long time can reduce the lifespan of internal hardware.

That’s why you must consider the water damage, as it badly impacts the lifespan of Fitbit. It’s also recommended not to use Fitbit under the shower if you’re using shampoos, conditioners, and other chemicals.

6- The Frequency of Resets:

Many users often overlook the reset frequency, but it’s one of the critical factors that must be in moderation.

Although more frequency of resets will help you keep your Fitbit in good condition. Meanwhile, if it’s been used more than often, then it can also cause the power button to damage.

Overusing it will also harm the hardware, firmware, and software and eventually make it useless.

So, all you need is to take precautions and reduce the unnecessary apps or features that will ultimately reduce the reset frequency, and your Fitbit will also perform better.

7- How Often Do You Use:

The usage of any technology gadget determines its average lifespan. The same goes for Fitbit.

You can expect it to last longer if you are using it for long hours or the whole day compared to the one using it occasionally. That’s why you must reduce its excessive use.

But, if you need to do so, give a good amount of care and maintenance or consider replacing the batteries.

8- The Model of Fitbit

As technology keeps on enhancing, the one who will survive in this race should also keep improving. Fitbit understands this requirement well. That’s why they introduced their various models with various improvements in each.

So, how long a Fitbit lasts depends on your model.

For example, the Fitbit Charge 2, charge 3, Fitbit Inspire, and Fitbit Inspire 2 all usually have longer lifespans and are the most durable Fitbit fitness trackers compared to other models.

Furthermore, Fitbit Versa 2, Fitbit Alta, flex, and Fitbit Charge 4 have a shorter life span. All these models can last up to 1 to 1.5 years, making it an unwanted choice for any enthusiast.

How to Increase the Lifespan of Your Fitbit?

How many years can a Fitbit last

So, we discussed all those factors affecting your Fitbit performance and directly relevant to your lifetime. Now, it’s time to get a deeper dive and find out how you can increase the lifespan of your Fitbit.

1- Give Proper Care

One of the easiest things you can ever do to increase the lifespan of your Fitbit is to give it proper maintenance. Where giving good care means;

  • Check The Heart Rate Sensor
  • Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit
  • Restart The Fitbit
  • Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App
  • Update The Fitbit OS
  • Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose
  • Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

So, to make your Fitbit last longer, you need to consider every factor.

2- Avoid Excessive Use

It’s obvious that a Fitbit will last longer if you use it occasionally. The average lifespan of a Fitbit will almost be different from the one used excessively compared to the one not used that much.

It doesn’t mean Fitbit won’t work for long hours or to keep it up the whole day. But, in this case, you must give more care to avoid any potential harm due to over-usage.

3- Protect Your Fitbit From Damage

Fitbit lifespan expectancy

With proper care and maintenance, you also need to protect your Fitbit from any potential damage.

However, protecting from damage would include everything, like protecting from

  • Check The Heart Rate Sensor
  • Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit
  • Restart The Fitbit
  • Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App
  • Update The Fitbit OS
  • Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose
  • Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

All these will eventually help you to have a longer lifespan

4- Consider Battery Replacement

Luckily Fitbit offers battery replacement. This will save you from big damage and help increase Fitbit’s lifespan. With that, most of the Fitbit issues can be resolved by taking good care of the battery or replacing the battery when needed.

So, despite investing in a new Fitbit, you should replace its batteries to save cost and for optimal performance.

5- Avoid Liquid Exposure

Most Fitbit models are water resistant but not entirely waterproof and can bear liquid exposure up to a limit. Meanwhile, the regular use of Fitbit in water will reduce its water-resistant capabilities. So, you can’t expect it to be the same as you first bought it.

Not only this, but you should also avoid using any shampoo, liquid dishwasher, or anything else while cleaning your Fitbit. In contrast, try a soap-free cleanser or wipe down your device regularly.

6- Take Good Care Of Your Fitbit Battery

The Fitbit battery is generally one of the first things that will get affected if you are not using it effectively.

For example, overcharging your Fitbit battery would affect its performance. Leaving the battery uncharged for longer hours would also cause damage.

To ensure a longer lifespan of your Fitbit, you must take good care of your Fitbit battery by avoiding over or undercharging. However, it’s worth mentioning that you only need to recharge the battery when it’s getting low.

Good to Know: The general practice to ensure your battery longevity is not to charge overnight but only when running low on battery.

7- Protect From Extreme Weather Conditions

Protecting your Fitbit from extreme weather conditions is the key to ensuring longevity. Fitbit fitness trackers are not usually meant to bear extreme temperatures.

For example, if you are a sports person and using a Fitbit during high-intensity activities, then the chances are your Fitbit performance will get affected and won’t last long.

Tip: we recommend you to keep your Fitbit in a cool and dry place if you live in a hot area while not using it.

8- Must Keep your Fitbit Updated

Keeping your Fitbit updated is getting essential daily to increase its lifespan.

With the regular updates of Fitbit, you can easily eliminate many issues, like fixing bugs, syncing, and better performance issues.

So, regularly updating Fitbit will help you eliminate potential problems that will ultimately help ensure longevity.

All you need is to check out your Fitbit app more often. If you see any update there, tap the update button to install.

Remember, during a firmware update, you must keep your linked mobile close to the Fitbit.

When Should You Replace Your Fitbit?

Below mentioned are some of the general scenarios under which you should consider replacing.

  • If you are facing issues with the battery, you can consider replacing it. But, in general, a new, better one can give you a maximum of 6 hours of battery power.
  • If you face issues in operating Fitbit, you must replace it, like sudden glitches, shutdowns, and low screen light.
  • Fitbit also keeps itself upgraded, and with its new version, they tend to introduce new features. So, to keep yourself upgraded, consider replacing the Fitbit depending on the current watch position.

However, it completely depends, and there is no single answer or right time to do that. That’s why you must analyze your Fitbit current position and decide accordingly.

The Bottom Line:

Fitbit is an effective fitness tracker yet budgeted. Although it is not expensive, the shorter lifespan might be annoying for some users. In that case, all you can do is follow the proper safety instructions. For example, giving adequate care, avoiding excessive use and exposure to liquid.

The only key to how long a Fitbit lasts is in the care it receives. If you give it proper care, you can expect it to last longer.

Hopefully, this guide has created some value in yours. If you got any further queries, do write in the comment section. We would love to be there.

Undoubtedly Fitbit is a notable sleep tracker that gives comprehensive data on your sleep. Most people use Fitbit to improve their sleep habits.

But sometimes Fitbit stops tracking sleep, which is agonizing for people serious about their sleep routine.

There are several reasons why the Fitbit sleep tracking feature stopped functioning. But most of the time, this usually happens when water penetrates the Fitbit’s optical or motion sensor.

In today’s guide, we will share some quick solutions that will surely fix the Fitbit sleep tracking issues.

Why Fitbit Stop Tracking Sleep

If your Fitbit only shows you the sleep stages data but doesn’t tell the duration, awake time, or sleeping heart rate, your Fitbit premium subscription has ended.

But if Fitbit doesn’t even track the sleep stages and sleep quality, then it means there is a problem with the optical heart rate sensor.

The optical heart rate sensor and movement sensor (accelerometer) simultaneously measure users’ sleep. Any fault in this sensor will make Fitbit stop tracking sleep.

But you don’t need to fret! Below are some of the fixes to get out of this problem.

  • Check The Heart Rate Sensor
  • Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit
  • Restart The Fitbit
  • Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App
  • Update The Fitbit OS
  • Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose
  • Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

1- Make Sure That Heart Rate Sensor Is Working Fine

As I mentioned earlier optical heart rate sensor in Fitbit is the primary element that tracks sleep stages.

So if it works fine, everything is fine. That’s why you must first ensure that the optical heart rate sensor is working fine.

You can conduct a heart rate test to check whether the Fitbit is tracking accurate readings. In case you find any fault in the heart rate sensor, you need to reset it.

  • Open Fitbit’s Setting app
  • Scroll to Heart Rate
  • Tap on Turn off, and wait for 30 seconds.
  • Now restart your Fitbit, and again turn on the Heart rate.

Now again, check whether the heart rate sensor is working fine or not.

2- Dry Moisture From Your Fitbit

The heart rate sensor also causes malfunctioning if water penetrates it.

Stop! And think for a moment: did you bring your Fitbit for swimming? Or Did you take a shower with your Fitbit? Maybe shampoo, conditioner or such chemicals enter into the Fitbit.

If such chemical or water penetrates your Fitbit, you must first dry it out.

Place your Fitbit under sunlight for 30 minutes, and then grab the hair dryer to wipe further moisture.

3- Restart The Fitbit

If the optical heart rate sensor is working fine, but sill your Fitbit is not tracking sleep, it means there are some software glitches.

The defective cache sometimes causes these glitches and prevents Fitbit from tracking your sleep data.

In such a scenario, you should restart your Fitbit. This will solve all the software-related issues, syncing, and tracking problems.

The restart process is different for each Fitbit model. You can hover over this guide to see how to reset your Fitbit tracker.

4- Reconnect Your Fitbit With Fitbit App

Sometimes syncing issues stop Fitbit from tracking sleep. This might be because of the prolonged distance between your Fitbit and phone or the Fitbit app.

So first, you need to unpair your Fitbit.

  • Grab your phone and open the Fitbit app.
  • Now tap on your profile picture from the top left corner.
  • Tap on your Fitbit tracker that you want to unpair.
  • From the top right corner, tap on the trash icon.

Now your Fitbit is disconnected from your phone. Once the watch is unpair, you need to restart your watch before connecting it again.

Below are the steps to pair Fitbit with your phone.

  • Open the Fitbit app on your phone.
  • Tap on the profile from the top left corner.
  • Tap on Setup device, and select your Fitbit from the list.
  • Now it will ask you for permission to sync data; tap on Allow.
  • Next, the app will ask you to enter the code on your Fitbit screen.

Hopefully, this time the Fitbit will seamlessly track your sleep data.

5- Update The Fitbit OS

The outdated Fitbit OS can cause syncing or connectivity problems which stops Fitbit from tracking sleep.

Fitbit frequently launches new updates to eliminate bugs and give a seamless experience to users. Not only that, but the new Fitbit OS also brings new features to motivate you.

By default, Fitbit OS automatically update if your Fitbit is connected to the internet. But you can also manually update the Fitbit firmware.

You can update the Fitbit OS through the Fitbit app or tracker.

Here is a quick way to update Fitbit firmware through the Fitbit app;

  • Open the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
  • Tap on your profile picture.
  • Next, tap on the Fitbit model you’re using.
  • You will see the pink “Update” button if any update is available. Tap on it to update the OS.

6- Don’t Wear Fitbit To Loose

fitbit sleep tracking not working

Fitbit’s heart rate sensor only works best when it’s in contact with your skin. Otherwise, it won’t get the signals from your arteries and hence can’t log the sleep data.

So whether you have Fitbit Sense, Versa, Charge, or Inspire, it’s mandatory to don’t wear it too loose on your wrist.

Secondly, make sure there is two fingers difference between your Fitbit and wrist bone. Before bed, lose your Fitbit so it can move easily on your wrist and not block blood circulation.

To get the best results, it’s recommended to wear Fitbit on your non-dominant hand because the movement of this hand is comparatively more than dominant hand.

That’s why the accelerometer detects your movement better during the night and gives more precise sleep data.

Similarly, wearing Fitbit on your ankle or arm is not a good idea. Fitbit is only made for your wrist and gives accurate readings on it.

7- Reset Fitbit To Its Factory Settings

If you are getting tied and none of the above methods works for you, then it’s time to reset your Fitbit to its factory setting.

The factory reset will clean all the data from your Fitbit app. But surely, this will solve all the software-related issues and glitches.

Here are steps to rest the Fitbit;

  • Open the Setting app on your Fitbit
  • Go to Device Info
  • Tap on Clear user data.

Wrap Up

Sleep tracking is a must-have feature in your Fitbit that helps you to improve your sleep habits and build discipline.

It’s very annoying when Fitbit stops tracking sleep; at that time, it seems your Fitbit is useless. But don’t fret; you can easily fix the issue using the above mentioned methods.

1- GPS Tracking

Even though a few of the Fitbit, like Sense and Charge 5, comes with built-in GPS, so they are exceptions in that case.

If your Fitbit lack onboard GPS, you must put the phone in your pocket so the Fitbit remains connected to the phone’s GPS. Otherwise, Fitbit won’t measure major sports stats.

2- Notifications

Fitbits doesn’t include any cellular or LTE feature, so they need a consistent phone connection to receive notifications.

Everyone wants a comprehensive analysis of their Fitness and health data. And Fitbit syncs real-time data with the Fitbit app giving a detailed overview of data.

You can only view the real-time data of your workouts and sports if your Fitbit is connected to your phone.

Otherwise, you can only view the basic states and entry-level data like steps, calories, etc.

4- Sleep Data

Sleep tracking is one of the dominating sectors in Fitbit, but without a phone, you won’t track major sleep data like REM, light sleep, deep sleep and score.

The Fitbit app shows beautiful visuals representing your sleep stages, patterns, and percentages.

But all this is possible if your Fitbit is connected to the phone.

Otherwise, you can only see the bedtime, awake time, and total sleep time.

So if you are serious about your sleep habits and want to track them continuously, you must keep your Fitbit paired with the phone during the night.

5- Can’t Control The Music

If your phone is connected to the Fitbit, you can control, pause, stop, and skip the music from your wrist.

This feature is very nifty for athletes because, during gym, It’s loathing to use the phone during a workout session. But with the Fitbit, you can easily control the volume and change the music.

Even though a few Fitbit also has dedicated storage for music, you can store music and listen to it when your Fitbit is not connected to the phone.

The few minor differences between Charge and Sense makes the one a superior fitness tracker. Keep on reading to know which one is suitable for you.

Fitbit Charge 5 VS Fitbit Sense

1- Design

fitbit charge 5 vs sense

Fitbit manufactures identical fitness trackers having lightweight. Fitbit Charge 5 follows the design of its predecessor with a slight difference in the bezel.

The beautiful Aluminum bezel makes Charge 5 look like a piece of jewelry or bracelet.

Whereas Fitbit Sense has a squarish design housed in a stainless steel case. So if you’re a fan of smartwatches, you can opt for Fitbit Sense.

There is a physical button on the side of Sense that helps you to navigate, pause, and stop activities. Whereas Fitbit Charge 5 has no physical button.

Comfort-wise, I’m a fan of the Fitbit Charge 5, as it looks more sleek and lighter on the wrist. Charge 5 only weighs 28g throughout the night, and it won’t irritate your wrist during workouts.

Whereas the Fitbit Sense has 45g of weight, it’s not too weighty!

Both Fitbits have a 5 ATM water rating, and you can swim, bath, or shower with them.

Fitbit Charge 5 and Sense both include flexible interchangeable silicone bands to provide maximum comfort.

In a nutshell, if you’re a fan of lightweight and comfortable fitness trackers, look no further than Charge 5. And it has an additional color option to choose from.

Both Fitbit wearables have heart rate sensors that measure heat variations, HR, blood oxygen saturation, and heart rate alterations.

Both Fitbits show a daily readiness score for well-disciplined athletes that lets you know when your body is recovering and ready for the next workout session.

The plus point of the Fitbit Charge 5 is that it will show your cardio fitness score based on your VO2 max performance, a valuable feature for cardio lovers, where there are no such features in Fitbit Sense.

The sleep tracking feature in Charge 5 and Fitbit Sense is almost the same, measuring the sleep stages, bedtime, awake time etc.

The Fitbit Sense shows a more detailed overview of your health, and you can put your daily nutrition intake and more.

Alas, there is no temperature sensor in the Fitbit Charge 5, so you will be deprived of tracking your body’s temperature. Sense allows you to monitor your skin temperature variation during the night.

Charge 5 and Fitbit Sense offer 20 sports modes, so you can track your various activities manually. And built-in GPS in both Fitbits tracks your distance, speed, and pace and provides navigation.

4- Smart Features

fitbit sense smart features

Being a smartwatch, Fitbit Sense includes many more smart features than the Charge 5.

The built-in speaker and microphone in Fitbit Sense allow you to answer calls directly from the wrist. You can even reply to text messages.

On Fitbit Charge 5, you can only see the notifications and can’t reply to them.

The Built-in Alexa voice assistant in Fitbit Sense is really fun, and you can ask questions, control smart home devices, check the weather, set alarms, and do all the fun with just one voice command.

If you’re a music fan, you will find a Fitbit Sense useful option because it has a dedicated music app and streams music from Spotify and Deezer. Whereas Charge 5 has no music features.

Finally, Fitbit Charge 5 and Fitbit Sene offer Fitbit pay, so you can make contactless payments at the cashier desk.

5- Battery Life

There is no significant difference between the battery performance of Fitbit Sense and Charge 5. Both wearables offer 6+ days of battery backup on a single charge.

Both Fitbits support Qi wireless charging, so you can charge them using any portable wireless charger. You might think about how long both Fitbits take to fully charge, and by change, it’s also the same.

So there is no win or lose between Fitbit Sense Vs Charge 5 in the battery department.

6- Price

Fitbit keeps the baseline of prices low as compared to competitors. But it doesn’t mean that they compromise on quality.

Fitbit Charge 5 and Sense are top-notch variants of their families, so their prices might be higher than other Fitbits.

The Fitbit Charge 5 is available for $129, whereas Fitbit Sense ranges from $140 to $170. Both these Fitbits are still more cost-effective than Apple Watch or Garmin.

Fitbit Charge 5 VS Sense: Which One To Choose

In terms of design and comfort, Charge 5 is the clear winner. Whereas when it comes to smart features like answering calls, voice assistance, and a bigger display, you can opt for Fitbit Sense.

The fitness and health features are pretty much seminary in Fitbit Sense and Charge 5. Because of the larger display, Sense shows a more detailed overview of your health data. On Charge 5, you have to swipe more to get the data.

Most often, Fitbit Versa 2 users put the question, “Can Fitbit Versa 2 be used under the shower?”.

The answer is Yes! Fitbit Versa 2 is water-resistant and can be used in the shower. You can also use this Fitbit wearable to track swimming activities.

But a few risks are involved in wearing Fitbit Versa 2 under the shower. In today’s guide, we will discuss some consequences of wearing Versa 2 in the shower and how to prevent major damage.

Is It Okay To Wear Fitbit Versa 2 In The Shower?

Fitbit Versa 2 is an activity tracker with swimming mode to track water activities. Because of this, Fitbit has made Versa 2 water-resistant to survive underwater.

Indeed, you can also use Fitbit Versa 2 in the shower. Its water resistance is up to 50 meters. But make sure to use a waterproof band with it to avoid skin allergies.

But at the same time, Fitbit Versa 2 is not fully waterproof, meaning water can penetrate the Versa 2. But don’t worry; Fitbit has also introduced a Water Lock feature that prevents big damage.

The Meaning of 50-Meter Water Resistance on Fitbit Versa 2

50 meter water resistant means

Before taking a shower with your Fitbit Versa 2, understand what a 50-meter water-resistant rating means.

Almost all Fitbit devices have a 50-meter water rating. But it doesn’t mean you can use the Fitbit wearables 50 meters underwater.

A simple rule of thumb for 50-meter water resistance is the Fitbit can withstand water pressure near 50 meters for 10 minutes.

It means it will be corroded if you use the Fitbit Versa 2 under 50 meters of water pressure for a longer time.

But using your Fitbit for showering is fine; it won’t damage you. Even if you shower for hours, the water doesn’t penetrate it.

Stay Away From These Things While Taking Shower With Fitbit Versa 2

As mentioned earlier, the Fitbit Versa 2 is not waterproof but only water resistant up to 50 meters. Now what does it mean?

If a Fitbit is not waterproof, liquid can get into it in many ways. Every liquid has its density and viscosity, so shampoos, soapy water, conditioners, and other soft chemicals can damage the Versa 2.

Soupy water has higher viscosity, meaning that the baseline of water resistance for soapy water differs from normal water.

If your Fitbit Versa 2 is water resistant up to 5 meters from normal water, it doesn’t mean it is still 5 meters resistant to soupy water.

Similarly, don’t wear Fitbit Versa 2 in hot tubs or if you’re using any body wash in the tub.

Can I Use Fitbit Versa 2 In The Hot Shower?

Yes, you can, but under certain conditions.

Fitbit Versa 2 has certain operational environment conditions; if you exceed these limits, you have to face the consequences.

The Versa 2 can be operated in an environment with up to 60° C temperature; above that, the Versa 2 might get damaged.

And I don’t think even the Alpha male can shower with 60° C water. Haha! So you can use Fitbit Versa 2 for a hot shower.

The moderate temperature for hot showers is between 35 to 40° C, which is fine for Fitbit wearables.

But the Fitbit Versa 2 is not recommended for hot tubs because the viscosity of hot water is again higher. And if you keep the Versa 2 in a hot bath for longer, the battery will burst.

What To Do If Water Gets Into Fitbit Versa 2?

In case of the water, get into the Fitbit Veras 2, and take it off from the wrist. Grab a lint-free cloth to dry the water.

If you see water stains under the display, expose the Fitbit to water for 30 minutes. Next, use a hair dryer to eliminate all the moisture from the Fitbit.

But you need to open the screen if the water stain doesn’t disappear. Once you open the screen, the accumulated steam will disappear.

But I won’t recommend opening the screen yourself; take your Versa 2 to a nearby watch repair shop and ask them to solve your problem.

Should I Use a Water Lock While Taking a Shower With Fitbit Versa 2?

The Water Lock feature in the Fitbit wearable is appreciable; that lets Fitbit users enjoy water activities without damaging their Fitbits.

And thankfully, Fitbit Versa 2 also has a water lock feature. So what does this feature do?

Water Lock features on Fitbit prevent the buttons and screen from activating. This will prevent Fitbits from being damaged by water.

So before going for a shower with your Fitbit Versa 2, turn on the Water Lock mode. Here you can see how to turn on Water Lock mode for Fitbit Versa 2.

Final words

I hope you understand the entire science behind the Fitbit Versa 2 water resistance. In a nutshell, you can use the Fitbit Versa 2 in the shower, but don’t expose it to shampoos, soupy water, and condoners.
